Addiction Poems

September 23, 2007

There are many poems out there by addicts, ex-addicts and the families and friends of addicts. Here are just two of them.

Overdose

September 23, 2007

A needle in his arm,
is all it takes.
Reaching for that euphoric,
drug induced state.

But this time its harder,
than ever before.
Not enough drugs,
he's gotta have more.

Too much drugs
is never enough.
He starts feelin' quesy,
gotta be tough.

The vomiting starts,
his vision goes black.
He knows this is the end,
his body goes slack.

In the hospital bed,
he lays comatose.
Mentally dead
from drug overdose.

Crystal's Meth

September 23, 2007

You walk the moral spires
but you didn't build them,
only shopped in small stores
with few buyers, and your
parents are raising your kids,
told you once before
the vices won't warm you
in their coils, they'll
hang you, in a velvet
chamber, where foul fiends
meet

Engage in exchanges
to put out your light,
who knows, perhaps
you won't have strength left
to fight

It's snowing in your room,
you stir the broken spring,
head is crawling and the hounds
are coming in,
every wet shadow you see;
you are angry at me?
it happens to us all,
you can walk or
you can fall

My foot in my shoe,
I easily filled it,
while you were in my care
I can slowly kill it,
this endless love of
viper venom veins,
a heinous law that
rips apart, it severs
your hand from
a moth eaten heart,
takes it from the temple door,
craving
more and
more

And you hate me?
Because I am free,
don't have to sound it,
say it or feel it,
I know your crank bugs
are real,
they govern the holes,
bid you obey,
an end to put out
your light and
who knows, maybe from
the inside I can see
you're too damn tired
to fight
